UN experts demand Pakistan end impunity for attacks on Ahmadiyya Muslims

United Nations human-rights experts expressed deep concern over ongoing persecution of Ahmadiyya Muslims in Pakistan, citing harassment, criminal prosecutions and violent assaults. They documented attacks on mosques, grave sites and disruptions of Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha observances, as well as hate speech and arrests tied to religious identity. The panel called on the Pakistani state to exercise due diligence, conduct prompt and impartial investigations, and bring offenders to justice in line with international norms.

It also urged a review of legislation and administrative measures that may breach obligations to freedom of religion, expression and assembly. The experts warned that tacit official complicity sustains a cycle of fear, preventing institutions from safeguarding minority rights. They concluded that lasting change requires sustained efforts to promote diversity, counter hate incitement and ensure safety for all belief communities.
