UN experts say US migrant agreements expose refugees to human rights abuses

United Nations experts have cautioned that the United States' practice of negotiating migration agreements with foreign states is resulting in widespread human rights violations against migrants. According to the specialists, the arrangements, which were expanded under President Donald Trump to include 35 partner nations, expose asylum seekers to torture, persecution and forced disappearances. They argue that the damage is no longer theoretical, describing a “law-snowball” of abuses.

The most endangered groups include children, women, people with disabilities, victims of human trafficking, LGBTQ+ persons, human-rights defenders, stateless individuals and others in precarious situations. The UN officials call for an urgent reassessment of the policy to prevent further violations. Their statements were released from New York.
