Unaired Diana recordings to feature in new three-part documentary

A forthcoming series will use five hours of Princess Diana’s private audio tapes to address recent allegations made by her brother, Earl Spencer.

Diana Unheard, a three-part documentary set for release next year, will feature five hours of previously unheard audio recordings made by Princess Diana before her death. The tapes, passed to Andrew Morton through Dr James Colthurst, formed the basis of Morton’s 1992 book and now provide material that touches on Diana’s marriage, her sons, succession issues, Prince Andrew and Camilla. Creative Director Kerene Barefield says the series aims to give Diana agency and a voice decades after her passing.

The programme arrives as Earl Spencer’s book Swan Song has sparked a dispute with Buckingham Palace over claims about King Charles’s reaction to Diana’s death. Production company Love Monday TV, which has previously collaborated with the Palace, will launch the series at an industry event, with additional interviews including former lover James Hewitt.

Why it matters

The documentary could reshape public perception of Diana and intensify the royal family’s ongoing media disputes.
