UNC Charlotte student filmed without consent, video shared in fraternity chat
A 19-year-old was arrested for secretly recording a sexual encounter with a UNC Charlotte student and distributing the video to a Sigma Alpha Epsilon group chat.
Authorities charged Alexander Michael Evanoff, 19, after he allegedly filmed a sexual encounter with a University of North Carolina at Charlotte student on Sept. 19 and forwarded the video to a Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity group chat of 32 members. In an interview, Evanoff is said to have acknowledged intentionally recording the act without the woman’s consent and sending it to boost his reputation, later apologizing when confronted.
He was taken into custody, charged with one count of disclosing private images and two felony counts of secret peeping, and released the next day on a $10,000 bond. University officials confirmed Evanoff is not a current student and denounced the conduct as reprehensible. The case highlights ongoing concerns about non-consensual image distribution on college campuses.
