Undertrial woman in Pocso case flees Bareilly hospital after donning burqa
A 49-year-old undertrial named Mamma escaped from Bareilly district hospital by changing into a burqa, prompting the suspension of two guarding constables.
Mamta, a 49-year-old undertrial from Tulsipur village, was taken to Bareilly district hospital after reporting ill health during a court hearing. Constables Nutan Sisodia and Rinki were posted to guard her, but while they were on a meal break they let her exit the ward to use the washroom. In the restroom she changed into a burqa and slipped out of the facility without detection.
Hospital staff discovered her missing, and police found her clothing left behind, prompting a search of the premises and surrounding area. Her son Keshav later received a call from a different mobile phone, in which she said she would handle her case herself. SSP Anurag Arya suspended the two constables for dereliction of duty and ordered teams to locate Mamta and any accomplices, while an FIR was lodged under BNS section 262.
