Unemployment rises modestly for sixth month as job creation accelerates

Seasonally adjusted data show unemployment increased by about 100 full-time positions in September, marking the sixth consecutive monthly rise.

According to seasonally adjusted statistics released by the Styrelsen for Arbejdsmarked og Rekruttering, September saw unemployment climb by approximately 100 full-time positions, extending a six-month streak of increases. Despite this, the overall number of employed individuals has risen by about 30,000 over the last year, pushing total employment close to 3.1 million. Niels Storm Knigge of SMV Danmark describes one outlet labour market as nearly optimal, with a comfortable level of joblessness that does not threaten wage growth or create labour shortages.

Jesper Grunnet Lauridsen, chief analyst at 3F, highlights that industrial sector unemployment fell for the first time since the turn of the year, suggesting the impact of recent corporate cutbacks is waning. He adds that the modest rise this month appears driven by factors other than those earlier reductions.
