Uniqlo to lift average selling prices by roughly four percent

Uniqlo announced it will increase the average price of its merchandise by about 4%, citing higher material costs and a weaker yen.

The Japanese apparel chain said the price hike is needed to offset rising raw-material expenses and currency pressure. Effective November 10, the Kando Jacket will rise from 6,990 yen to 7,990 yen, and multi-pair sock discounts will end. Eleven items will see higher prices in November, following earlier adjustments in September that also raised shipping and alteration fees.

Why it matters

Higher prices at Uniqlo could affect consumer spending and signal broader cost pressures in Japan's retail sector.
