Unison urges Glasgow council workers to vote down proposed pay deal
Unison's Glasgow City branch is advising its members to reject the council's new pay package, saying it fails to address low-grade staff losses and comes before job evaluations are completed.
Unison's Glasgow City branch has called on council employees to vote against the latest pay package, arguing it does not provide enough money to offset losses faced by lower-grade staff. While the proposal contains certain negotiated safeguards, the union says many workers lack clarity because thousands of job evaluations remain unfinished. Branch secretary Chris Sermanni emphasized that members should not be asked to decide without understanding the proposals' effects.
Regional organiser Mandy McDowall explained that the branch narrowly rejected the deal, acknowledging gains for low-paid women but noting that many staff are still left behind. The ballot began on Monday and will close on November 23, as the council continues to consider restructuring over 23,000 positions.
Why it matters
The outcome will shape pay and job security for thousands of Glasgow council employees.
