A United Airlines flight from Chicago to London declared an emergency and landed safely at Shannon Airport in Ireland due to a problem with its left engine.
United Airlines flight UA938, operating a Boeing 767 on the Chicago-London route, experienced a malfunction in its left-hand engine shortly after departure from O’Hare International Airport. The crew issued a Mayday call and the aircraft was directed to Shannon Airport in County Clare, roughly 140 miles from Dublin, where it landed without any injuries among the 173 occupants. Local emergency services, including firefighters and ambulance crews, responded to the runway but were released about half an hour after touchdown.
The plane remained grounded for several hours while engineers performed technical checks, after which a substitute flight was arranged to complete the trip to Heathrow. The exact cause of the engine issue has not been disclosed.
