United Airlines Boeing 767 returns to Heathrow after mid-air emergency

A United Airlines flight from London to Newark declared an emergency shortly after take-off and landed safely back at Heathrow.

United Airlines flight UA941, a Boeing 767-300 scheduled from London Heathrow to Newark Liberty International Airport, departed shortly after 4 pm. At cruising altitude of roughly 32,000 ft over Manchester, the crew identified a technical issue and declared an emergency. Although initial plans called for a fuel-dump of around 20 tonnes to reduce landing weight, the pilots elected to return directly to Heathrow for a quicker landing.

The aircraft arrived back at the airport at approximately 6 pm and landed without incident. Emergency responders and ground crews were present as per one outlet protocol. No injuries were reported.
