United Naga Council demands deputy CM's removal, husband’s arrest and SoO pact suspension amid new violence

During a meeting at the Border Security Force’s frontier headquarters in Assam, the United Naga Council submitted a set of demands to the central government and Manipur authorities. The council asked that deputy chief minister Nemcha Kipgen be removed from office, that her husband Thangboi Kipgen, leader of the Kuki National Front, be taken into custody, and that the Suspension of Operations agreement with Kuki militant groups be halted.

It also called for the Kuki National Front to be designated a terrorist organization and for the arrest of a suspended Kuki police officer linked to the killing of six abducted Naga people. The council announced the suspension of its economic blockade on Manipur effective 6 p.m. on September 26, 2026. The demands came after two Naga civilians, identified as Rocky and Kumar, were killed by unknown armed men in Kailenjang village, Senapati district, and followed earlier killings of four Tangkhul Nagas in Kamjong district.
