United Talent Agency adds DreamWorks writer-director Januel Mercado to its roster

United Talent Agency confirmed that it will represent Januel Mercado for all aspects of his career, adding the rising filmmaker to its client list. Mercado, who co-directed the critically acclaimed “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish,” is also the writer and director of DreamWorks Animation’s forthcoming film “Forgotten Island,” featuring voice talent H.E.R., Liza Soberano, Lea Salonga, Dave Franco, Manny Jacinto and Jenny Slate.

His background includes story contributions to “Kung Fu Panda,” “Penguins of Madagascar,” “Turbo,” “Trolls,” and serving as head of story on “The Croods: A New Age.” Prior to this, he worked on Warner Bros.’ LEGO projects and held a supervising director role at Nickelodeon Animation.

Mercado was highlighted on Variety and Gold House’s 8 APIs Up Next in Entertainment list, and he continues to be managed by Joann Mercado Hicks. The agency’s move underscores its focus on expanding representation for top animation talent.
