Universiti Malaya will start a Student Residential Hostel Project on Oct 15, aiming to house more than 40,000 students, with priority for low-income families.
Universiti Malaya is set to roll out a Student Residential Hostel Project on Oct 15, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim slated to launch the effort. The development targets accommodation for more than 40,000 students and will be delivered in two stages: an initial batch for 10,000 students and a subsequent batch for 30,000. Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir highlighted the plan as a government model to meet rising housing demand at public universities.
Priority will be given to students from low-income families, particularly those in the B40 bracket and those traveling from distant regions. UM vice-chancellor Datuk Seri Prof Dr Noor Azuan Abu Osman also introduced ILMUcode, an AI-driven coding platform created with YTL AI Labs, to support technology education at the university.
