University of Miami donates 1994 ibogaine IND filing to FDA to boost psychedelic research

The University of Miami transferred its 1994 investigational new drug application for ibogaine to the FDA, supporting the president's push to accelerate psychedelic drug research.

In connection with an April executive order to hasten therapies for severe mental disorders, the University of Miami provided the Food and Drug Administration with its original 1994 investigational new drug application for the psychedelic substance ibogaine. President announced the donation, stating that the filing gives the agency a baseline authorization to accelerate the drug's development and broaden "right-to-try" options for patients.

He highlighted the expected advantages for veterans and referenced a conversation with Joe Rogan. FDA Secretary Kennedy received the documents, which are expected to streamline future clinical studies.

Why it matters

The transfer gives the FDA a key regulatory tool to speed research on a potential treatment for serious mental illness.
