Unlicensed driver fined after speeding with five unbelted children in Ipswich

A 36-year-old woman without a licence was stopped for speeding in Redbank and found driving five children, including a four-month-old, without seatbelts.

On October 9, officers stopped a 36-year-old woman driving a white Hyundai iMax on Brisbane Road in Redbank, Ipswich, after she was recorded traveling 77 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. The vehicle contained five children ranging from a four-month-old infant, who was being held by a five-year-old sibling, to a nine-year-old, and none were using appropriate restraints. The driver, who does not possess a licence, was issued a $6,993 fine, 23 demerit points and a charge for unlicensed driving.

Senior sergeant Jarrad Tyne warned that unrestrained children are extremely vulnerable, even at modest speeds, and stressed the necessity of seatbelt use on every journey. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about child safety compliance on the road.
