Unwell, the content company launched by Alex Cooper and Matt Kaplan in 2023, announced that Patrick Whitesell’s investment vehicle WTSL has provided an undisclosed amount of capital, valuing the business at $500 million. The founders, who continue to hold a controlling stake, say the funding will accelerate expansion, including potential acquisitions. WTSL is expected to contribute strategic guidance and leverage its network, which includes partnerships such as Omaha Productions.
The announcement arrives amid recent exposés alleging a hostile work environment at Unwell, claims that Cooper has brushed off as internet speculation. Unwell highlights its strong reach among Gen Z women, citing 70 million monthly listeners and a broad portfolio of podcasts, streaming series, live events, and consumer products. The company also notes a multi-year SiriusXM deal worth up to $125 million and collaborations with major platforms like Netflix, Disney+, and Hulu.
