Upcoming week brings Fed minutes, services data, job claims and consumer sentiment
Wall Street will receive the Fed's meeting minutes, a services-sector index, weekly unemployment claims and the University of Michigan consumer sentiment survey this week.
Investors and economists have a busy schedule ahead as several key indicators are set to be released. Monday’s Institute for Supply Management report will show whether the services sector, which dominates U.S. activity, is expanding. The Federal Reserve’s minutes, due Wednesday, will detail the reasoning behind its recent interest-rate increase and its view on inflation and the job market.
Thursday’s unemployment-claims data, traditionally a proxy for layoffs, remain at historically low levels. Finally, the University of Michigan will publish its October consumer-sentiment index on Friday, following a September survey that highlighted concerns over fuel prices and stubborn inflation. These data points are expected to shape market expectations for future monetary policy and consumer behavior.
Why it matters
The releases will guide investors and policymakers on inflation trends and labor-market health.
