UPR parliamentary group backs Victor Ponta as candidate for prime minister in Cotroceni talks

Victor Ponta was named by the Uniți pentru România (UPR) parliamentary group as its official proposal for prime minister in the upcoming consultations convened by the President at the Cotroceni Palace. The party emphasized Ponta's previous governmental experience and his capacity to facilitate dialogue among divergent political forces. UPR stressed the urgency of ending one outlet political deadlock, which it says hampers economic policy and risks deepening the crisis.

Its proposal calls for a full-power government backed by a transparent parliamentary majority, a cabinet of technocratic ministers, and a clear program to revive the economy. While prioritising a political premier, the group said it would consider an independent candidate if that person could assemble a stable majority without abandoning political responsibility. The statement also outlined a broader economic agenda focused on fiscal predictability, support for domestic businesses, industrial revitalisation, energy competitiveness, and efficient use of European funds.
