US and UK Sign Historic Pact to Target Chinese-Linked Crypto Scam Hubs
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro and UK officials signed a memorandum in Washington to coordinate action against Chinese-run cryptocurrency fraud operations.
During a ceremony at the British ambassador’s residence in Washington, U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro, CPS Director Stephen Parkinson and NCA Director General Graeme Biggar signed a first-of-its-kind memorandum to combat Chinese-linked scam centers. The pact outlines coordinated investigations, shared intelligence and decisions on which jurisdiction will prosecute overlapping cases. A physical disruption operation, involving private companies, is slated for early October in London.
The Justice Department says these fraud schemes siphon about $10 billion annually, while FBI data show an 89 % rise in crypto investment-fraud losses to $8.65 billion between 2023 and 2025. The initiative builds on earlier multinational actions that led to hundreds of arrests and the shutdown of multiple scam compounds. Pirro’s office notes the effort expands the Scam Center Strike Force, launched last November.
