US judge schedules new Lockerbie bombing trial for January 2027
A federal judge in Washington set jury selection for the Lockerbie bombing case for January 19, 2027, after a recent postponement.
The trial of former Libyan intelligence operative Abu Agila Mohammad Mas'ud Kheir Al-Marimi was delayed in August when his lawyers asked for more time to examine newly disclosed evidence. US District Judge Dabney Friedrich now orders jury selection to begin on January 19, 2027. Mas'ud has entered a not-guilty plea to two counts tied to the 1988 Pan Am Flight 103 disaster that killed 270 people.
Why it matters
The rescheduled trial determines accountability for the 1988 Lockerbie bombing and offers closure to victims' families.
