US Justice Department seizes domains linked to Chinese state-backed hacking platforms
The Justice Department announced it has taken control of web domains used by two China-run hacking services that infiltrated multiple US agencies, including the Justice Department, NASA and the Federal Reserve.
On Wednesday, the Department of Justice reported the seizure of internet domains used by two malicious platforms, QScan and QTRouter, which were employed by the Chinese state-affiliated hacking group QTFY. QTFY, linked to Nanjing Xinjiuwei Network Technology Company, provided intrusion tools that concealed the attackers’ national origin. The compromised agencies include the Justice Department, NASA, the Federal Reserve, the Department of Energy, the Department of Health and Human Services, the National Institutes of Health and the U.S. Senate.
Court documents reveal that QTFY’s paying clients encompass the Ministry of State Security and the People’s Liberation Army of the People’s Republic of China. Attorney General Todd Blanche said the government will pursue those who threaten America’s critical infrastructure. The action underscores ongoing concerns about foreign cyber-espionage against high-value US institutions.
