US Marine Arrested in Okinawa After Woman Found Dead in Hotel Room

A 20-year-old US Marine stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Futenma has been taken into custody on suspicion of murder and robbery after the body of 39-year-old Anna Yagi was discovered in a Naha hotel room.

Authorities in Okinawa have arrested Devin Jacob Ballard, a 20-year-old US Marine based at Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, on charges of murder and robbery. The incident stems from the discovery of 39-year-old Anna Yagi’s body in a hotel room in Naha early Saturday, after she did not vacate the room by the checkout deadline. A hotel employee unlocked the door, found Yagi unconscious, and called emergency services, who declared her dead at approximately 4:20 a.m. Police reviewed security footage that showed a man and a woman entering the hotel together, with the man later emerging alone while holding the woman’s belongings.

Investigators linked the footage to Ballard, who was subsequently detained. The motive and any prior relationship between Ballard and Yagi remain unclear, and the exact circumstances of the killing have not been released.
