US safety group presses Indian AAIB for interim Boeing 787 safety recommendations

The Foundation for Aviation Safety (FAS) wrote to the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) in India, urging the agency to publish interim safety recommendations for the Boeing 787 fleet after uncovering evidence of chronic system failures. Over the past year, FAS obtained over 100 confidential documents related to the crashed Air India 171 (VT-ANB) and forwarded them via a UK AAIB expert. The materials detail repeated faults in the aircraft’s electrical wiring interconnection system and power distribution, including incidents of burning panels and multiple system errors.

FAS contends that the AAIB’s lack of public safety advisories contradicts its core purpose of preventing future accidents. The AAIB acknowledged receipt of the documents and affirmed that its probe adheres to applicable regulations, yet it has not released any interim recommendations to date.
