US strike hits Iranian wedding venue, killing five and wounding dozens

On the evening of September 1, a wedding celebration for Maryam Mallahi and Ziaeddin in Kuhestak, Sirik county, was interrupted by a series of explosions as the United States launched attacks across southern Iran. The first blast hit a telecommunications tower less than 200 metres from the venue, followed by a projectile that struck the house where women and children were gathered, tearing through the roof and creating a 1.5-metre deep crater.
The strike destroyed the home, killed five people—including Zarkhatoun Taheri, Kolsoum Mallahi-Nezhadnia, Mohammad Mallahi, Amir Mohammad Karimi and later Asieh Molaeinejad—and wounded 68, among them 19 children. Witnesses recounted scenes of blood-stained carpets, shattered furniture and frantic attempts to pull survivors from the rubble before Red Crescent responders and fifteen ambulances arrived. Iranian authorities reported damage to nearby infrastructure and a temporary loss of mobile and internet service, while the precise nature of the weapon remains unclear and US officials have not confirmed the intended target.
