US-Taiwan partnership unveils two new drones for export markets
AEVEX Aerospace and Taiwan's Coretronic Intelligent Robotics displayed two jointly developed drones, Vandal and Onyx, and announced plans to grow operations in Taiwan.
AEVEX Aerospace, known for its Phoenix Ghost attack drones, and Coretronic Intelligent Robotics (CIRC) revealed the Vandal and Onyx drones, products of a US-Taiwan technology-transfer partnership. The drones have been field-tested in Ukraine and feature 3D-printed construction that enables fast, large-scale manufacturing. Vandal provides a 486 km operational radius, over 3.5 hours endurance and a 4.5 kg payload, while Onyx reaches 270 km, exceeds 2.8 hours endurance and carries up to 13.6 kg.
Both platforms can serve as one-way attack units. CIRC’s president Wu Hsiu-hui said the collaboration merges US technology with Taiwanese manufacturing, and the companies intend to seek Taiwanese military contracts and overseas customers. AEVEX also plans to expand its presence in Taiwan, where CIRC’s facility in Jhunan Township aims to produce thousands of drones monthly.
Why it matters
The joint venture could boost Taiwan's defense industry and expand the global market for rapid-manufactured drones.
