USR leader Fritz rules out coalition with PSD ministers, urges snap elections
Dominic Fritz announced that USR will stay firm in refusing any cabinet that includes members of the Social Democratic Party. He argued that the only way out of the crisis created by PSD and AUR is to hold snap elections, allowing voters to decide the next mandate. Fritz said USR will discuss the president’s next prime-minister nominee but will not support a government that serves as a façade for PSD. President Nicușor Dan is set to host consultations at the Cotroceni Palace on Monday to select a new premier candidate.
Dominic Fritz, leader of USR, reaffirmed the party’s stance of not entering a coalition that features ministers from the Social Democratic Party (PSD). He emphasized that the solution to the political deadlock, which he attributes to PSD and AUR, is to call for early elections so citizens can choose a new governing mandate. While USR is prepared to talk with any prime-minister nominee the president may propose, the party will not vote for a cabinet that functions as a cover for PSD.
Fritz also noted that USR will not support any “paravan” government designed to benefit the social democrats. President Nicușor Dan will convene party leaders and parliamentary representatives at the Cotroceni Palace on Monday for consultations on the next prime-minister appointment, marking the fourth such nomination since May.
Why it matters
