Utah 2034 backs new donation drive to broaden youth sports participation
The Utah 2034 organizing committee has joined the inaugural Utah Youth Sports Giving Day, a multi-week fundraising campaign aimed at expanding access to youth sports across the state.
At a gathering hosted by Miller Sports + Entertainment, the Utah 2034 Winter Games committee announced its partnership with the first Utah Youth Sports Giving Day, a statewide fundraising effort to support nonprofit sports groups. CEO Brad Wilson warned that many Utah children lack opportunities to play and stressed sport’s role in teaching life skills. The initiative will pool donations from individuals and corporate partners, with the Larry H. Miller Family Foundation, Daniels Fund and dozens of other donors offering dollar-for-dollar matches on the first $1 million raised.
The campaign targets $3 million in total contributions, directing funds to 501(c)(3) organizations that run youth sports programs. Olympic and Paralympic athletes attended, crediting early sports experiences for their success and urging continued investment. Steve Starks, CEO of the Larry H. Miller Company and Utah 2034 vice chair, said the effort will help cement a lasting legacy for the 2034 Games beyond the event itself.
Why it matters
Expanding youth sports access can improve health, skills and community cohesion for Utah's children.
