Utah defensive tackle Jamal Wallace suspended after arrest on video-sharing charges

Utah defensive tackle Jamal Wallace was placed on an indefinite suspension following his arrest on misdemeanor counts for allegedly distributing intimate videos without consent.

The University of Utah’s athletics department confirmed that defensive tackle Jamal Wallace has been suspended without a set end date after his arrest on alleged misdemeanor charges for distributing intimate images. According to a probable-cause affidavit, a woman who described Wallace as an “off-and-on dating partner” claimed he forced her into sexual acts, recorded the encounter on her phone, and sent the video to five Snapchat contacts.

Wallace denied the assault during a police interview but admitted to looking at the victim’s Snapchat messages, becoming upset when he saw she was messaging other men. He was released from jail after posting $5,000 bail and has not yet faced formal charges. The suspension was enacted immediately after the university learned of the incident on Oct. 11. Wallace had appeared in one game this season after transferring from Tennessee.

Why it matters

The case raises concerns about athlete conduct, campus safety and the handling of sexual misconduct allegations in college sports.
