Utah Jazz coach Will Hardy honors late father with ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Utah Jazz head coach Will Hardy participated in an ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, dedicating the act to his father who died of the disease.

The viral ALS Ice Bucket Challenge returned to public attention following former NFL player Chris Johnson’s 2025 ALS diagnosis. Utah Jazz head coach Will Hardy, whose father Bill died of ALS in 2015, posted a video of his players—Darryn Peterson, Josh Okogie, Keyonte George, Kyle Filipowski and Brice Sensabaugh—pouring ice water over him. Hardy explained that he does the challenge in memory of his father and to support individuals like Johnson and former NFL player Steve Gleason, and he urged viewers to donate to the ALS Association, the Will Hardy Foundation, or the Sean M. Healey and AMG Center for ALS.

He also invited Washington Commanders coach Dan Quinn, Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra, Duke Blue Devils coach Jon Scheyer, Jazz owner Ryan Smith and Dwyane Wade to join. After the water dump, Hardy joked, “They’re gonna pay for that.”
