Utah Man Indicted for Attempted Hate Crime After Threatening Synagogue with Bombs

A 22-year-old man from Ogden, Utah, was indicted on federal hate-crime and weapons charges after authorities found homemade pipe bombs and other explosives at his home.

A federal grand jury in Salt Lake City returned an indictment against Skyler AJ Rose, a 22-year-old resident of Ogden, Utah, charging him with an attempted hate crime, possession of an unregistered destructive device, and threats to kill and damage a building. The charges relate to threatening social-media posts made on Dec. 23, 2025, in which Rose wrote that he wanted to "blow up a synagogue." Investigators linked the online username to Rose through IP tracking and, with assistance from the FBI, obtained a search warrant for his home.

The raid yielded six improvised explosive pipe bombs, an inert device, bomb-making components, two rifles with magazines and ammunition, and a black Samsung cellphone. Examination of the phone revealed searches for nearby synagogues in November 2025 and hundreds of cached images of child sexual abuse material. Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon said the indictment halts a planned violent attack on a place of worship.
