WalletHub’s latest happiness ranking examined 30 different metrics—ranging from depression rates and productivity to income growth and unemployment—to rank every U.S. state. Hawaii topped the chart, New Jersey came second, and Utah secured the third spot, thanks to its highest volunteer rate and the nation’s lowest separation and divorce figures. Utah also ranks near the top for supportive relationships, health status, and economic security, with an unemployment rate of 3.4% and a strong work-life balance reflected in fewer weekly work hours.
