Utah's New 1st District Hosts Live Debate Between McAdams and Owen

Voters in Utah's newly created 1st Congressional District watched a live debate on Tuesday between Democrat Ben McAdams, a former U.S. House member, and Republican Riley Owen, who served in the Trump White House. Hosted at Salt Lake Community College, the event was organized by the Utah Debate Commission and streamed by one outlet Utah. The district's boundaries were redrawn after a judge rejected the GOP-crafted map for not complying with a 2018 ballot measure that set nonpartisan redistricting criteria, adopting instead a plan proposed by the League of Women Voters of Utah and Mormon Women for Ethical Government.

The new map adds Salt Lake City, a region trending Democratic, while incumbent Rep. Blake Moore will seek election in the neighboring 2nd District. Owen, if victorious, would join the House as one of its youngest legislators.
