Utah Voters Face Vote on Amendment B Raising Tax Initiative Threshold

Utah's November 3 ballot will include Amendment B, which would require a 60% supermajority for any initiative that creates, expands, or raises taxes.

Currently, most Utah ballot measures pass with a simple majority, except for hunting-related proposals that need two-thirds support. Amendment B, backed by Senator Lincoln Fillmore, proposes a 60% approval bar for tax-related initiatives. Supporters argue that tax hikes should have broader consensus, while critics say the change would make the initiative system less accessible to citizens. Voters will decide the amendment in the upcoming election.
