Uttar Pradesh Congress flags voter list errors and Form-8 usage in Pilibhit
The Uttar Pradesh Congress sent a letter to the Election Commission alleging that voters with mismatched EPIC details were asked to complete Form-8 during a special campaign in Pilibhit.
The Uttar Pradesh Congress lodged a complaint with the Election Commission, asserting that voters whose details did not match their EPIC cards were compelled to fill out Form-8 during a targeted voter outreach in the 127-Pilibhit Assembly Constituency. The party noted that the errors emerged after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) list was released in April, placing the onus on the Election Commission to amend them.
According to the letter, Block Level Officers at booths 227-233, 411-415 and others collected pre-filled Form-8 from affected voters, who were only asked to sign or thumb-print the document and were not given acknowledgment slips. Former Congress general secretary Kumud Gangwar, identified as a whistle-blower, said the forms were prepared by officials, while Anas Khan, the party’s Election Commission liaison, claimed the practice was meant to conceal a broader mishandling by Election Commission staff.
Why it matters
The allegation raises concerns about electoral integrity and the handling of voter data in a key Uttar Pradesh constituency.
