Uttar Pradesh Court to Deliver Verdict in Eight-Year-Old Apple Exec Murder Case

On Thursday, district and sessions judge Malkhan Singh in Lucknow will deliver the judgment in the murder of Apple executive Vivek Tiwari, who was shot by constable Prashant Kumar Chaudhary on September 30, 2018. Tiwari, returning home after a party, was pursued by two constables near the Makdoompur outpost; Chaudhary allegedly opened fire, causing Tiwari’s vehicle to crash and leading to his death at a hospital. The case, filed as Sessions Trial No. 49 of 2019, has seen extensive testimony, including statements from Tiwari’s wife Kalpana, his colleague Sana Siddiqui, and several police and medical witnesses between 2019 and 2024.

A Special Investigation Team determined Chaudhary acted with intent and implicated Sandeep Kumar for injuring Siddiqui, resulting in separate trials for the two officers. The verdict will conclude a protracted legal battle that has drawn public attention to police accountability in Uttar Pradesh.
