Uttar Pradesh plans to quintuple electric vehicle charging stations
Uttar Pradesh, currently third in India for public EV chargers with 238 stations along highways and industrial corridors, will seek to install 1,000 additional points. Uttar Pradesh is set to increase its electric-vehicle charging network fivefold, moving from about 238 operational stations to an additional 1,000 sites. The expansion focuses on major highways, expressways and industrial corridors, reinforcing the state's position as the third-largest provider of public chargers in India. Under the 2022 EV Manufacturing and Mobility Policy, the state will subsidise 20% of the capital cost for new chargers, capped at ₹10 lakh per unit for the first 2,000 installations. Additional Chief Secretary of Energy Ashish Kumar Goel linked the plan to Uttar Pradesh's extensive renewable-energy capacity of 8,906 MW, including 6,024 MW of solar, and its growing fleet of 1.77 million registered EVs. The expanded infrastructure is intended to ease long-distance travel for EV users and further reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
