Uttar Pradesh textile and apparel exports climb 10% to nearly ₹35,000 crore in FY26

In FY26, Uttar Pradesh’s exports of textiles, apparel and handicrafts jumped 10% to nearly ₹35,000 crore, up from over ₹31,804 crore the previous year. The state, responsible for roughly 13% of India’s fabric output and employing 1.5 million people—including 200,000 handloom and 500,000 powerloom weavers—has set a goal of becoming a global textile hub. At the UP Textile Conclave 2026 in Lucknow, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced MoUs for investment proposals totaling ₹5,196 crore and outlined a strategy to integrate the entire value chain from fibre to international brand.

Gautam Buddha Nagar district contributed ₹21,000 crore in exports, ranking second among India’s exporting districts. Seventeen textile products from the state have earned Geographical Indication tags, and officials noted the rising importance of technical textiles for sectors such as defence and healthcare. Land has been earmarked for new projects in Varanasi, Amroha, Bareilly, Sant Kabir Nagar and Bijnor.
