Uttarakhand launches cash aid for homes damaged by natural disasters

The Uttarakhand disaster management authority will pay up to Rs 1.30 lakh to owners of houses severely damaged or destroyed by natural events, with lower amounts for partially damaged structures.

The Uttarakhand state disaster management authority, operating under the department of disaster management, has outlined a compensation program for households whose residences suffered complete or partial loss due to natural calamities. The scheme provides Rs 1.20 lakh per pucca or kutcha house in flat terrain and Rs 1.30 lakh per house in mountainous districts, including those listed in the Integrated Action Plan. For properties with damage of at least 15 %, the payouts are Rs 6,500 for pucca houses, Rs 4,000 for kutcha houses, and Rs 8,000 for huts, with an additional Rs 3,000 for any cattle shed attached to the dwelling.

Eligibility requires the applicant to be a resident of Uttarakhand and the legal owner of the damaged home. Verification begins with a patwari recording damage on a P-20 form, followed by review from the tehsildar, sub-divisional magistrate and final approval by the district magistrate, after which funds are disbursed at the tehsil level.
