Uttarakhand probes alleged fake domicile and freedom-fighter certificates in MBBS admissions
Authorities have launched a Special Investigation Team probe into possible fraud involving domicile and freedom-fighter dependent certificates used by about 350 medical college applicants in Uttarakhand.
A controversy over medical college admissions in Uttarakhand escalated after journalist Pradeep Bahuguna highlighted possible falsified documents submitted by candidates seeking state-quota seats. He provided a list of about 350 applicants, some of whom studied outside the state or took the NEET exam elsewhere, and asked officials to verify their certificates. The Special Investigation Team has registered two separate cases and is collecting admission records, while SP (Rural) Jaya Baluni cautioned that it is too early to determine whether an organized network is involved.
The probe centers on alleged forged freedom-fighter dependent certificates and counterfeit domicile papers. Medical Education Minister Subodh Uniyal instructed the Dehradun district magistrate to submit a report within a week, and four Common Service Centre sites were shut down and their equipment seized after compliance issues were uncovered. Officials who approved the certificates are also under scrutiny as the medical counselling process continues.
