UVA transfer Solomon Beebe charged with animal cruelty after alleged dog assault

Incoming Virginia football player Solomon Beebe was arrested on three misdemeanor animal-cruelty counts after a housekeeper said he punched his pit bull, and the dog was placed in protective custody.

Solomon Beebe, a transfer from UAB to the University of Virginia, was charged with three Class 1 misdemeanor animal-cruelty offenses stemming from alleged assaults on his pit bull on Aug. 10 and Aug. 12, according to Albemarle County court filings. A housekeeper at his apartment complex reported seeing Beebe hold the dog against a wall and strike it multiple times, prompting animal control officer Justin Gibson to note the dog yelped with each blow.

Albemarle County animal control confiscated the dog on Aug. 13 and placed it under the care of the county SPCA. Beebe appeared in Albemarle County District Court, was released on unsecured bond, and has been seen practicing with the Cavaliers, while the university said it would not comment on ongoing legal matters. His attorney Thomas Weidner was unavailable for comment. Coach Tony Elliott praised Beebe’s on-field abilities but did not address the charges.
