UVU releases detailed report on security lapses surrounding Charlie Kirk’s campus assassination

Utah Valley University has issued a 158-page investigation into the circumstances of Charlie Kirk’s fatal shooting during a public speaking event on its campus. Conducted by the Lake Forest Group, the study outlines ten recommendations and concludes that no university staff acted maliciously, but that security policies were applied inconsistently and staffing was inadequate for a high-profile outdoor gathering. The review documents a series of decision points from August 25, when officials kept the courtyard venue despite safety concerns, to September 10, when TPUSA security arrived and coordinated with police chief Jeffrey Long via text.

It notes that the university’s police lacked dedicated camera monitoring and that the primary security focus was misdirected to the Hall of Flags walkway rather than the rooftop area later cited by the Kirk family. Attorney Brett Parkinson said the findings validate the family’s claim of severe security shortcomings and demand true accountability. UVU President Jon Anderson pledged to learn from the report and implement its recommendations.
