Uzbek mixed martial arts bronze medallist tests positive for meldonium
Uzbek bronze medallist in mixed martial arts at the Asian Games tested positive for the banned drug meldonium and has been provisionally suspended.
Nodirbek Shavkatov, who earned a bronze medal in mixed martial arts in Aichi-Nagoya, was found to have meldonium in his system, according to the International Testing Agency. This marks the first Asian Games medallist in Japan to fail a doping test and the third athlete overall at the Games to do so. Shavkatov can appeal the suspension and request a B-sample analysis. The case follows a Turkmen karate competitor who also tested positive for meldonium.
