Vaiko claims DMK and BJP are negotiating a hidden pact amid delimitation row

MDMK chief Vaiko said a covert agreement is being prepared between the DMK and the BJP in Tamil Nadu, while the parties trade accusations over delimitation.

At Thoothukudi Airport, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko asserted that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam is preparing a clandestine arrangement with the Bharatiya Janata Party in Tamil Nadu. He recalled having predicted a surprising election outcome and used the platform to commend Chief Minister Vijay’s first hundred days, highlighting the alleged eradication of bribery and fulfillment of campaign promises.

DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan responded by accusing Vaiko of opportunistic rhetoric, noting that Vaiko recently joined the TVK alliance and that two DMK-won MLAs did not follow him. The controversy coincides with DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran questioning Vijay’s sudden reversal on delimitation, suggesting the change followed Vijay’s meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The remarks were made on the sidelines of the Southern Zonal Council meeting, which also discussed pending water-related disputes among southern states. Overall, the episode reflects heightened political tension over electoral boundaries and inter-party alliances in the region.

Why it matters

The claim hints at a possible realignment of major parties in Tamil Nadu, affecting future elections and delimitation policies.
