Valencia imposes up to €3,000 fines for littering and public nuisance offenses

Valencia has begun enforcing new municipal rules that fine littering, dog waste, fly-tipping and other anti-social behaviours, with penalties ranging from €750 to €3,000.

Valencia's local police have begun applying a new municipal cleaning ordinance that imposes hefty fines for a range of littering and anti-social activities. After a two-week public-information drive, offenders can be fined up to €1,500 for dropping cigarette butts, chewing gum, paper, dog waste or illegally dumping furniture and other bulky items. More serious violations such as public urination, spitting or graffiti on protected structures may be penalised with fines up to €3,000.

Leaving construction rubble on public roads also attracts a €1,500 fine. The initiative, announced by the city council led by Partido Popular mayor Maria Jose Catala, is intended to raise cleanliness standards and encourage residents to respect shared spaces. It follows earlier regulations aimed at curbing noisy stag and hen parties, which would be treated as serious offenses if held on streets during designated hours.

Why it matters

The fines aim to deter litter and nuisance behavior, improving public cleanliness and quality of life in Valencia.
