Valeo CEO forecasts fully autonomous cars for consumers within a decade

Christophe Périllat, chief executive of French supplier Valeo, says driverless vehicles for private use are likely to appear in about ten years.

The head of Valeo, a major but little-known automotive parts maker, outlined the company's role in providing the electronic "brain," "eyes" and "nervous system" of modern cars. While historically cautious, he now predicts that fully autonomous passenger cars could be on the market within a ten-year horizon. The announcement coincides with the Paris Motor Show 2026, which may signal a renewed European automotive ambition amid growing Asian competition.

Why it matters

The prediction signals a major shift toward driverless cars, affecting consumers, manufacturers and regulators worldwide.
