Venice docufilm showcases Italy's holistic blueprint for healthy longevity

A new docufilm premiered in Venice during the International Film Festival, presenting Italy's integrated approach to aging in health with input from athletes and medical experts.

During a Venice event hosted by the Veneto Film Commission in conjunction with the International Film Festival, the docufilm “Vecchio a chi? La cura della longevità in salute” was unveiled to promote a comprehensive view of longevity. Created by The Skill Group in partnership with the Fondo di assistenza sanitaria integrativa (Fasi) and Sport e Salute, the film gathers testimonies from Olympic athletes Manuela Di Centa, Venanzio Ortis and Andrea Lucchetta, as well as doctors, psychologists and researchers such as endocrinologist Lucia Riganelli.

It frames healthy aging around four interrelated pillars—physical health, psychological equilibrium, regular sport and nutrition—highlighting preventive action. The project cites an eight-year rise in male life expectancy and a 6.5-year rise for women since 1990, while noting that 57-59% of participants over 65 have chronic conditions, underscoring the need for continuous care models. Initiatives like the “Sport Illumina” program, which converts abandoned urban spaces into free, multigenerational playgrounds, and “Circolo 65” aim to combat isolation and foster active lifestyles. Regional investments, academic research on diet and epigenetics, and the “Barca xe Casa” rowing-based psychomotor program further illustrate a broad, cross-sector effort to make later life healthier and more autonomous.
