Venture capitalist warns Trump’s debt rise and Middle East war will haunt nation
Jason Calacanis criticized President Trump on social media, saying the administration’s growing debt and ongoing Middle East conflict will have lasting negative effects.
Venture capitalist Jason Calacanis took to social media after a Creative Planning analyst reported a sharp increase in the federal debt, calling President Trump’s two terms responsible for a substantial rise. Calacanis identified two “blunders”: the expanding debt burden and an endless war in the Middle East, specifically with Iran. He cited a 2025 Trump statement promising debt reduction as contradictory to current trends.
The conflict, which he said has cost billions and sees Iran refusing negotiations, is also affecting global trade through its hold on the Strait of Hormuz. Calacanis warned that the combined fiscal and security challenges will burden the administration that follows in 2028. He concluded that many supporters are reluctant to acknowledge these issues.
