Venture Global partners with GE Vernova and Baker Hughes for up to 16 new power islands

Venture Global announced agreements with GE Vernova and Baker Hughes to build up to 16 720-MW power-island units for off-grid AI data centers and LNG sites.

Venture Global disclosed that it has signed deals with GE Vernova and Baker Hughes to develop up to 16 off-grid power-island installations, each delivering 720 megawatts of gas-fired, combined-cycle generation. The units will run behind the meter, providing dedicated power for AI data centers and the company's LNG operations while avoiding strain on public electricity and water systems. Venture Global aims to place its inaugural order for a power island before the close of 2026 and projects the capacity could support up to 10 gigawatts of compute by the end of 2034, contingent on customer commitments.

The firm plans to submit its first permit applications within the week, with additional equipment orders dependent on future commercial and operational requirements. This expansion builds on an existing 4.5 GW of island-mode gas generation that already powers its facilities independently of the grid.

Why it matters

The deal could boost dedicated power for AI workloads while reducing pressure on public grids.
