Vera Therapeutics reports Phase 3 trial shows Trutakna steadies kidney function
Vera Therapeutics announced that its drug Trutakna stabilized kidney function and lowered the risk of kidney-related death in a two-year Phase 3 study of IgA nephropathy patients.
The company said the final results of the trial demonstrated both preservation of kidney function and a reduced incidence of fatal kidney complications. Trutakna received accelerated FDA approval in July for treating IgA nephropathy, a chronic autoimmune kidney disease. With the new data, Vera plans to request full FDA approval later this year. The disease can progress to organ failure and dialysis if untreated.
Why it matters
The data could lead to full approval of a new treatment for a kidney disease that often ends in dialysis.
