Verve Ventures picks up North American sales for Jerome Sable's new comedy

Verve Ventures has secured North American sales rights for Jerome Sable’s black comedy “Wolf of the North” ahead of its debut at TIFF: The Market.

Jerome Sable’s upcoming black comedy “Wolf of the North” has been acquired by Verve Ventures for North American sales ahead of its presentation at Frontières, part of TIFF: The Market in Toronto. The story follows Pat Thornton’s character, a wildlife-obsessed wannabe trying to complete his late father’s unfinished film. Amy Beecroft of Verve Ventures described the project as having a rare mix of a distinctive comic voice and an instantly graspable premise, while Michael Paszt of Raven Banner called it bold and unapologetically Canadian.

The film is produced by Stuart Henderson and Javiera Quintana of 90th Parallel Productions, with Andrew Bronfman of Beyond the Frame also on board, and it has secured development funding from Ontario Creates and production financing from Telefilm Canada. Currently in financing and pre-production, the team aims to begin shooting in January 2028 and hopes the TIFF market will attract additional financiers and distributors for international release.

Why it matters

The deal shows growing international interest in Canadian genre cinema and could boost the film's financing and distribution.
